This weekend my friend and I (aka Hutch and the Hookers) recorded an acoustic cover of My Morning Jacket's Lowdown. Click here to download and listen (2.8 MB, 4:06). I recorded it on my new Korg D-1200 Digital Multitracker. Even though it's a discontinued product, I'm really liking this unit. It has a 40 GB hard drive and built-in modeling effects for guitar, bass, and microphone. It also provides three-band EQ with sweepable mids for each channel in the mixer. I bought it for $550 from music123.com. It comes with an optional CD-burner, but I bought it without one. It was cheaper that way. And besides, it has a Master output (RCA jacks), so I can hook it up to my computer (which already has a CD-burner) and mix-down and burn that way.

I've started playing with my jazz band again. I thought I'd be rusty, but surprisingly it all came back to me. I've also started playing acoustic guitar for my friend's project, Hutch and the Hookers. We play his originals as well as some Todd Snider and Billy Joe Shaver covers. I guess we'll play an open mic at some point. We're also recording a My Morning Jacket song for a MMJ tribute CD. The guitar I'm playing is a new Kramer D-100. I got it for $99 from Music Yo. It plays very well and sounds great with my friend's voice. Granted I'm not exactly the most discriminating player when it comes to acoustic guitars, but thus far I've very happy with it. The only change I made was installing some new Thomastik-Infeld strings. I went with their Plectrum Acoustic Series (.010 - .041). $12.67 from juststrings.com.

I've decided to give Blogger another try for publishing to my website. That's why there's a huge gap in the archives. I was surprised to see my account was still available. It had been over two years since I last accessed it. Now that Google is running the show, it seems to be much more reliable. Last time I used it I often received errors when trying to post new entries. Some days it worked great, other days it was crap. I figure by now it should be pretty stable. I just posted a bunch of old entries without a snag, so that's a good sign. Anyway, I'm hoping this will motivate me to start updating my site more often.
