Read an interesting interview with Devin Townsend in issue 197.5 of Detritus so I decided to buy one of his albums, Ocean Machine. The first four songs are unbelievably good. In fact I just keep listening to them over and over. The rest of the album is slow, trippy and self-indulgent (sort of like this web site). But all things considered, I'd say my gamble paid off handsomely. Very good music. My other recent notable musical event was seeing Y&T play live at Jaxx in Springfield, VA on December 6. If you're not familiar with Y&T, think equal parts Van Halen, Foreigner, and Boston with a spritz of Poison. I had last seen them in 1987 in San Antonio. I had the tour shirt to prove it so I wore it proudly once again. Considering I bought it when I was 14, I was very happy to see it still fit at 29. Anyway, the show was jaw-dropping, outstanding. Dave Meniketti, the lead singer and lead guitarist, is truly entering his prime as a blues player. His extended solo on Dirty Girl made me want to cry it was so beautiful.
